During the mid 1980s, Bradley put his musical influences to use in two bands, before Sublime was created in 1988. These two, straight-ahead reggae groups that Brad played in in high school and during his years at C.S.U.D.H., Sloppy Seconds and Hogans Heroes, never went anywhere. They serve merely as a footnote in Bradleys musical progression early in his career. In the meantime, Eric and Bud started their own band, when both were in their early teens. The band, The Juice Bros., was a rude, harsh, hard-core punk band. Of course, Eric played bass and Bud played the drums. Coincidentally, this band had more of a future than Bradleys two ventures into music. The Juice Bros. Released an EP in 1986, two years before the official creation of Sublime, and the same year that Bradley began playing with Bud and Eric. Years later, after Sublime was no more, Eric and Bud began playing in The Juice Bros. again, before the creation of the Long Beach Dub Allstars. The band had an audition for MCA Records, the company that signed Sublime in 1995. They passed, figuring that the market just wasnt there for a band with songs titled, in addition to other things, 13 & Fat, and Greasy Lesbian Hamburger Fight. The band continues to perform, while Bud and Eric have spare time, and their early 1986 release sells for triple and quadruple its suggested price in online auctions and used record stores. It was during Brads college years that the members of Sublime first started playing and performing together. The bands official creation is dated in 1988, but the real starting point was in 1986, when Bradleys first recorded effort, Fighting Blindly, was performed. This track would later show up on Sublimes Sinsemilla 86 - 96, one of the bands most popular bootlegs. > Sublime |
