Believe it or not, it looks as though there's yet another posthumous Sublime project in the works. A source at MCA tells Wall of Sound that the album, which will combine the band's "greatest hits" with previously unreleased solo-acoustic tracks performed by late frontman Bradley Nowell, could be out year's end. The as-yet-untitled record would be the third disc from the Long Beach band since the break-out success of its 1996 eponymous effort, which was released two months after Nowell succumbed to a heroin overdose. In 1997 the surviving band members released Second Hand Smoke, a collection of B-sides and rarities, and on June 30 of this year, Sublime dropped the live album, Stand by Your Van. And while some may think that there's a touch of necrophilia in churning out multiple posthumous Sublime albums, there's no doubt that it's good business. According to SoundScan, Sublime has sold over 3.1 million copies, and Second Hand Smoke has moved over 300,000. Stand by Your Van, released just two weeks ago, has already shifted some 72,000 copies. |
