Self Injury - adj. - The commission of deliberate harm to one's own body. The injury is done to oneself, without the aid of another person. Acts that are committed with conscious suicidal intent or are associated with sexual arousal are excluded.
Self Injury. A coping method. Confusing yet makes perfect sense. Painful yet Pain-free. Stressing yet calming. Self Injury, also known as Self Harm or Self Mutilation (an offensive term to myself as well as many other SIers) is the deliberate act of causing physical pain to oneself without the help of another person. Do not mistake Self Injury for a suicide attempt gone wrong. Because usually, that couldn't be further from the truth. In most cases, SIers are not trying to take their own life, they are simply dealing with internal pain the best way they can. Coping. And that is exactly what it is. There are so many indirect and socially acceptable forms of Self Injury, such as drinking and drugs. Wouldn't it be nice if nobody needed a coping method? We'll see when that day comes. So okay, we've covered what Self Injury is briefly - but why don't they just stop? Ha. Easier said than done. Why doesn't a smoker just stop smoking cigarettes? Why doesn't an alcoholic just stop drinking? Why doesn't a heroine or cocaine addict just stop using? And the list goes on. But do you see what I mean? Pain is the worst form of addiction. The feelings during and after are addicting. Unfortunate. But true.

Please note :: There are other methods of Self Injury other than these listed above. The ones listed   are simply methods that are more commonly found among SIers. However, methods are not limited to these.
