| Woman being rescued after a bomb hit a house during the Blitz. Although the attack on Britain by Germany had been meant to destroy the RAF so that the Germans could easily cross over the Channel, in August 1940 German bombers accidently bombed London, and so Churchill demanded Berlin's bombing and a circle of revenge began. Pilots such as Uncle Robert who till now had just been defending certain military points now found themselves having to protect entire cities along the south coast of England. It was the first time that English civilians learned the hard truth of war first hand. |
