ANALYSIS
BATTLE OF BRITAIN:
The Battle of Britain began as an effort by the Nazis to cripple the RAF, to ensure a quick victory over Britain, but instead it resulted in hundreds of deaths of civilians in London and neighbouring cities in what is known as the Blitz. It was the first time that civilians in Britain had ever been targeted and they were forced to experience war firsthand. Also, the Battle of Britain was the first time radar was tested and it proved to be a huge success. Due to radar, enemy aircraft was accurately detected and so the Allies held an advantage over the Germans. Also, the presence of radar prevented unneccesary deaths, since city people could be forewarned of the attacks and so could hide in their bomb shelters. The Battle of Britain proved to be one of Hitler's major mistakes, since he tried to win the war by breaking the will of the people, instead of continuing to target the nation's shipyards, factories etc. which if destroyed would leave the nation without any form of defense.
Researching the Battle of Britain helped me to understand the importance of the Airforce in the Second World War, as well as the role technology played. It gave me a good idea about the lives of the pilots and the tactics they used. Considering that they had practically no air defense in the Great War, technology must have really advanced at a quick rate in the years between the wars. Also, it gave me an idea of what civilians have to go through in times of war and how quickly they learn to adapt. The most intriguing thing I found was Hitler's rash method of dealing with things and his constant need for revenge.
THE HOLOCAUST:
The Holocaust is one of the most disturbing events ever recorded in World history. Soon after the Nazis came into power they began to systematically strip Jews of all their rights and finally began the all-out extermination of  11 million European Jews. The Holocaust was a pretty well kept secret throughout the entire war.Not until the Allies started pushing through Europe did they discover the atrocities committed. The Holocaust was a genocide like never before, and questioned the morality of humans. It resulted in two thirds of the Jewish population in Europe being wiped out.
Researching the Holocaust made me realize the true extent of the atrocities committed on the Jewish people as well as other"Undesirables" during the war. I feel it is probably one of the worst displays of evil ever. It shocked me to think that people could commit such obscene crimes and later deny any knowledge of it. Hitler was a truly evil character and unfortunately his "ideals" drove an entire nation to do the unthinkable. It was probably the most devastating and horrible event during the war. It marked a new turn in world history.
D-Day:
The code name for D-Day was " Operation Overload" and was given by the allied landings on Normandy Coast. The significance of D-day was that first time that major action to get rid of the Germans for once and for all and it worked. D-day had finally gotten the Germans back to their borders. I learned that it took alot to stop Germany from taking over the rest of europe and I also believe that if they weren't stopped then that they would succeed in their ultimate goal .
Pearl Harbor
Sunday Dec. 7th 1941, In the Hawaiian Islands the fleets were concentrated. Most of the staff had gone away for the weekend. This was the perfect time for the Japanese to attack the USA. The  was the first time that the war had moved over on to American soil. The Pearl Harbor bombings was what made America join the war because before then America was not that connected until it came personal when the Japanese crossed the ocean.
