Career history:
After entering the UEO Naval Academy in September 2030, Michael Warren attained record grades in his first year mid-terms. It was decided that Warren should be placed in an accelerated learning program, a fast-track version of the Academy. He completed the four-year Academy course in just two years, attaining a GPA that has not been beaten since. Although initially following a Science\Engineering path, Warren switched to Command\Engineering midway through his first year. Graduating as valedictorian, with rank of Lieutenant, he was requested by Captain Oliver Hudson for assignment aboard UEO seaQuest DSV 4600 II.

While onboard seaQuest, Warren witnessed first-hand the continuing aggression of the Macronesian Alliance. Assigned as Tactical Officer, he participated in the skirmish near Apollo Colony in 2033, devising the strategy that allowed the DSV to turn back the Alliance assault. After the ambush and destruction of UEO Excalibur DSV at Ganges Colony in March that year, Warrens shuttle from seaQuest was first on the scene to recover survivors.

During his time aboard seaQuest, Warren cultivated close friendships with many of the seaQuest senior staff, in particular Lucas Wolenczak, with whom Warren would work closely in later years. In 2034, shortly after the sabotage of UEO seaHawk by Macronesian undercover forces, Warren saved the life of seaQuest XO, Jonathan Ford, when the same undercover group attempted to disable the boat. Warren was awarded a commendation for bravery, and a field promotion to Lieutenant Commander for his subsequent capture of the saboteur.

One year later, Warren, with Lt.Cmdr Wolenczak, Nathan Bridger and Alex Grayson, helped design the successor to the seaQuest class, the seaWolf-class DSV. Warren also proposed a series of modifications for an Advanced Submergence Vessel to be based on the seaWolf design. These modifications were later approved for use on six of the twelve planned seaWolf-class hulls.

Warren briefly transferred to UEO Horizon SSV in late 2034, after the majority of its command staff were killed in a freak accident off the Azores. The seaQuest was the closest ship to the subs distress call, and Captain Hudson assigned Warren to take command. Warren commanded the DSV for three weeks as it limped towards New Cape Quest, and managed to assist seaQuest in repelling a small raider force seeking to pick off the vulnerable sub. Upon the ships return to New Cape Quest, Warren was offered a permanent position as XO to the subs new captain, Stefan Markov, but declined the promotion, stating it was too soon for him to accept such a high-ranked position.

With the commencement of construction on the seaWolf pathfinder, DSV 6800, in June 2036 at Pearl Harbour Point, Warren accepts a transfer to UEO Headquarters (Operations Division) to oversee the construction, with promotion to Commander. He makes a number of modifications to standard construction practises that speed up the building by six months. Warren reports directly to Secretary General McGath during this time, and received both praise and criticism for his practises and command style. For the next two years, he works on UEO seaWolf, and is present at UEO Command during its disastrous maiden voyage. Upon the subs completion, Warren is reassigned to UEO Tactical, to assist RAdm. Nathan Bridger in preparing strategies against Macronesian aggression. He also assists part-time on the construction of the first of the Advanced Submergence Vessels, where he works with long-time friend, David Stamp.

In October 2039, Warren is promoted to Captain by Secretary General McGath, and given command of the ASV Excalibur. Many protests are made at this promotion, which makes Warren the youngest to achieve the rank in UEO and recent naval history. Among them is Commander John Barratt, who is assigned to the sub as XO.

On the maiden voyage of the new ship, the same Macronesian undercover group responsible for the attacks on seaHawk, seaQuest, and (it is assumed) seaWolf, strike at the Excalibur. Warren displays great command ability in dealing with the crisis, and manages to stand off against a Macronesian strike cruiser, despite the Excaliburs weapons systems having sustained severe damage because of the sabotage attempts. Warren earns the respect of the naval community with this display, and many of his detractors are silenced by his actions. Warren then takes the Excalibur out on a three-month shakedown cruise in secure UEO waters on November 1st.

Many still doubt Warrens abilities as a commanding officer, and he has come in for strong criticism for his overt friendliness with his command crew, and his disdain for the traditional hierarchical command structure. However, it remains to be seen where that will cause him problems in the future.

Personal:
Warren has been considered one of the great minds of the age. With an IQ of 212, he ranks amongst the top .1% of intelligence, and is one of the ten most intelligent people in the world. However, he is keen to play down his intelligence, tempering it with a measure of common sense and maturity far beyond his years. In his early childhood, he attended a school for gifted children, where he met David Stamp, and the two remain good friends to the present. Stamps assignment to Excalibur has allowed them to continue their friendship aboard the sub. Warren also maintains close contact with Nathan Bridger, an old friend of his parents, and whom he sees as his mentor.

Rumours abound concerning a possible romantic relationship between Warren and Excalibur security chief, Patricia Taylor. While the two have become close friends since the ships launch, neither one has confirmed these rumours.

While off-duty, Warren enjoys a wide variety of sports and activities. At the Academy, he was a star member of the running team, helping the Academy to retain the All-Star Collegiate Championship for a record sixth consecutive year in 2031.
