Sailor and Zoe here. Last night the wind kicked up again. I woke Mom up and asked her if she could see it. She said, "No, Sailor, I can't. It's dark and my eyes are closed." Oh. Well, we could hear it anyway. It blew and blew. It rattled the windows, it boomed and said shhhhhhh. Mom says the wind this time of year reminds her of Chubasco season. I know Chubasco IS a seasoning and it makes people go shhhhhhh and make freaky wind noises, but I don't get the connection between that tiny bottle and the outside. Zoe said, "Oh, please. Chubasco is what some people put in the holes that dogs dig." I get it! I am hearing the sound of the gravel being blown around by the Chubasco! Suddenly in the midst of all this noise, we heard a new noise. It was a shrieking hissing noise. Mom said it was a raccoon fight. It sounded much scarier than a cat fight. Zoe was instantly on the alert. Cats? Raccoons? She was ready. Then we heard BarksALot, well, barking. He is our neighbor who gets to sleep outside every single night! Then we heard NewBark really alarm barking. Then there was HissSpitScreeching and NewBark yelling and yowling and then...silence. Some human noises came next followed by the clapping of hands. Zoe went to the window. I went to Mom. Mom said that whatever just happened was over and we were all safe because as head of this household, it is her job to keep us all safe. I thought that was a pretty neat trick, being able to keep us safe without even getting out of bed! Tomorrow I am going outside to look for the Chubasco in Zoe's holes in the dog run. If I find it, I will show Zoe. Maybe Zoe will make freaky wind noises and run in circles. Sailor a little bleary-eyed from lack of sleep and Zoe wide-eyed and bushy tailed with the wind |
