Soon after my arrival at the school, I developed a school Intranet that I have continuously refined and improved over the years. It has now become an integral part of communication and collaboration within the school community. SGJ's Intranet provides benefits such as easy access to a range of educational resources, centralised booking of facilities such as computer rooms and audio-visual equipment, daily postings of information bulletins to staff and students and so on. I set up the school's original website at www.globaljaya.com but am not currently involved in its maintenance and update because of time constraints. Most recently, I have been instrumental in the use of Microsoft's SharePoint Server 2007 to set up a portal site for the school so as to provide Internet access to school resources that previously resided on the school's Intranet and were only accessible internally.

I was the driving force behind the installation and use of the online course creation software Moodle. This was intended initially as a means of ensuring some continuity in the delivery of lessons should the school be forced to close temporarily because of social unrest, bird flu pandemic or any other reason. It's use forms part of the school's disaster management procedures. The use of Moodle soon proved to be an excellent way to help bridge the gap between home and school, and significantly reduce the amount of paper generated by the school community. Students can access material for many of the school's courses online and upload assignments from home. I've used Moodle extensively with my Year 11 and 12 Technology students who have made widespread use of the program's Wiki facility. Check out SGJ's Moodle courses by following this link (many courses allow for guest login).

I have been running a blog for sometime that communicates news of IT developments within the school and offers advice on a range of technological issues. This is of help to students and their parents, as well as teachers. You can access this blog by following this link. Additionally, I run a blogs for all my IT classes. Currently, I am teaching the IB course of Information Technology in a Global Society (ITGS) to Year 11 and Year 12 as well as Year 10 MYP Computing Technology. Click on the link to access the Year 12 ITGS blog, Year 11 ITGS blog and the Year 10 blog. These blogs can be accessed by students when they are at home recuperating from illness, or perhaps under suspension. These course blogs complement Moodle very effectively. I have also set up a school wiki on Wikispaces that is used by Year 11 and 12 Technology students. It can be accessed via this link.

Over the years, I have provided IT workshops to staff on a broad range of topics and continue to keep staff technologically informed via the school blog, internal email and short talks during fortnightly staff meetings. I have also engaged the wider school community by offering IT workshops to parents and I am a regular contributor of IT articles to the school's monthly magazine called Kontak. I have also organised a successful interschool computer competition called Battle of the Brains for students from a variety of schools within Jakarta.

In terms of professional development, I have provided Educational Technology workshops at National Plus Conferences and been a facilitator at Job Alike sessions for teachers of Information Technology within Jakarta. I am a registered member of several educational sites on the Internet such as Classroom 2.0, Edublogs and TeacherTube. I maintain an IT blog on Edublogs. During the second half of 2007, I volunteered to teach English to Indonesian teachers at the school as part of a school-wide initiative to raise English levels within the school.
