Health Insurance

As a Corps, we do community outreach to sign people up for Basic Health Plan, the low-income health insurance health insurance plan administered by the Washington State Health Care Authority. We strongly encourage all HealthCorps members to sign up for BHP as soon as you arrive in Seattle. (Find Nora at El Centro de la Raza [map], this year's AmeriCorps member who signs people up for BHP. She'll set you up with coverage.) You'll be eligible to have your premiums paid for you.

Why do this? First, it will give you the direct experience of the process the people we serve go through. And since your AmeriCorps health insurance plan is not great for preventive medicine, having a BHP supplement will give you pretty good coverage.
