| Family: Hemirhamphidae Scientific name: Hemlrhampus xanthopterus (Cuvier & Valenciennes) Local name: Jolong-jolong Distribution: Estuarine waters to shallow waters to about 20m depth Size commonly caught: 10-15cm total length Notes: Common sight in quite waters of estuaries. Easily recognised by its peculiar mouth which has a normal upper jaw while the lower jaw is extended into a needle-like beak. Tip of beak is coral-red in colour. |
