Standing on a hill looking south you can see the acerage of Dorris Ranch. In the
center, a bright white roof shows the White Barn next to the Dorris Barn. Beyond
it a little to the right is the lighter green patch of filbert orchard with one
or two Incense Cedars poking out in its midst. The hill I am standing on and the
hills seen on the far right represent the last hills that the Willamette River must
pass to reach the long, broad Willamette Valley, the final destination for may of
those who took the Oregon trail. The southern California or Applegate trail branch
passed alongside the Willamette River at this point. You might be able to make
out the tiny, blue-gray triangle of the Willamette River that shows in this photo just to the
right of one of the photo edges roughly half way up vertically.
