Seaforth Chinese Language Programme

The Seaforth Chinese Language Programme has provided Chinese language and cultural education to children in Burnaby, BC, Canada for over 20 years.   Since our inception, we have diversified our programme from Cantonese language only, to both Cantonese and Mandarin classes.  Class sizes range from 7 to 15 students.    Classes run from early September to mid-June and are suitable for school-age children from K-Grade 7.  Classes are 1 1/2 hours, every Tuesday from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

Chinese Culture

Many of our students come from homes where Chinese is not spoken.  Since many of our students come from non-Chinese or Chinese-Canadian families, our programme is often their first exposure to the Chinese culture.  We have therefore developed a programme that facilitates Chinese language education through story telling, songs and cultural exposure, in addition to traditional methods.
  Children learn about Chinese history and celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn (Moon Cake) Festival, Spring Festival and Dragon Festival.  We also teach Chinese culture by introducing children to different kinds of Chinese foods, games, calligraphy, crafts, songs, music, stories and toys.
