Journey to Italy (Spring 03)
  1. The entrance to the harbor at Ponza Town. Rock juttings are characteristic of Isola Ponza.
  2. Fishing boats in Ponza harbor. Bloom is at anchor off-camera, top left.
  3. Tom and Rich play chess on the foredeck. The island of Capri shows faintly on the horizon, left.
  4. Storm clouds gather in the evening over the Castello d’Aragon.
  5. Karl and Minda prepare to raise anchor on their home-built boat. The Michelangelo Tower is in the background; the blue banner announces the current exhibit of the work of the Italian sculptor, Arnaldo Pomodoro.
  6. The water taxi dispatcher, Giovanni, helps launch Ultra Violet with a full load of water.
  7. Abby and Franco, our kayaking friend, on the terrace of his home near the beach.
  8. Abby and Angelo, the devilishly cute water-taxi driver.
  9. Kibbitzing with Franco and Clara at their produce store.
  10. Street in Ischia Ponte. The nautical museum and post office below it show in the background.
  11. In the public garden in the main town of Porto Ischia.

Winter 02-03
  1. Bloom in her slip, just to the right of the dark-hulled wooden ketch.
  2. Our deck from the top of the mast. It's a workday -- lots of things on deck as Tom checks out the anchor light on top.
  3. Here's Tom, about to look for the leak in the cockpit locker.
  4. Our bakery and the delightful woman who runs it.
  5. Our butcher, M. Bernard. One of his sons is a chef in New York; the other has an elegant butcher shop in Beaulieu.
  6. Fadi, our fruit and vegetable man.
  7. Part of the seasidewalk to Beaulieu.
  8. On the way back to St. Jean. This romantic house once belonged to David Niven.
  9. Tom on our walk around the cape.
  10. Abby (in heaven) bringing Bloom into Villefranche, a neighboring harbor, with Deb.
  11. Deb and Fred on deck at Villefranche. The yacht in the background is the Christina O, once owned by the Onassis family.
  12. On Tout Seul, Alan and Jen's boat. They are to the left; their London guests, Susan and Andrew, are on the right.
  13. Tom and Pierre on Bloom, making summer plans.
  14. A party on L'Eugenie, Dany and Auguste's boat. From left, Tom, Dany, Abby, Jean-Marie, Janine, Pierre, Auguste and Bethi.
  15. With friends Beate and Karl on their boat, Fee, at our dock.
  16. Tom and Jeff toast our friendship at a bistro in Mougin.
  17. Abby, Jeff and Eunice with Monaco as a backdrop.
  18. Cousins Valli, Pierre and Lauren with Pierre's mom, Alia, on Bloom.
  19. With Alia at her home above Vence.
  20. With Christiane and Pierre and their tiny poodles, Hercule and Etamine, along the Promenade des Anglais, Nice.
  21. Our port at St. Jean, center right, from the medieval city of Eze, across the bay.

October 02
  1. On our way to Corsica: sunrise on Abby's watch. In the moment it took to get the camera below-decks, the sun changed from hot pink to hot white.
  2. Coming into Corsica: the citadel at Calvi.
  3. Calvi, the citadel and the sea. Bloom is the middle boat in the bay.
  4. In light winds on the way south, we flew our colorful asymmetrical spinnaker for the first time.
  5. The hamlet of Girolata, with Bloom on the left. The small triangular riding sail helps keep the boat steady at anchor.
  6. Returning from our hike: the countryside beyond the Girolata fort; the vegetation is the fragrant maquis.
  7. Chris in her store. She makes baskets and frames mirrors to sell there.
  8. Sailing school at St Jean, Nov 4.
