The second segment of the show was slated as an interview with the European champion Dave Daniels. The champ came out and placed his belt on the ring table in front of the crowd. He then proceeded to explain how he was forced to defend his title at Hell Freezes Over 2003 in a handicap match. After hurling insults at both Cardinal Yeomans and Jason Sensation, Double D lashed out at ex-commissioner Boden. He said that the long running personal feud between himself and the commish had made Boden book him in an unfair match, a two on one if you will. He went on to say that although he was upset by this he was not afraid to defend his title; he just does whatever it takes to secure victory.
He also said that the type of match he is in doesnt matter as he has an advantage over all of his main rivals. This advantage is not worrying about what others think of him especially the St.Lukes crowd. This stirred the fans who must have been relieved to hear the opening bars of Hardcore Michael Yorks emotive music. The Yorkster came out and displaced Daniels title and replaced it with his own. He then explained that contrary to what DD might have said the fans at St.Lukes were the best in the world and that they helped him to defend his Intercontinental Title in the barnburner at Hell Freezes Over 2003 against Mimmick Master. The unmistakable sounds of Jason Sensations Spandeu Ballet classic Gold blasted over the twinnie system and out came the worlds strongest man. The crowd assumed that Daniels was once again in a two on one match but the tides turned as Jason admitted that he agreed with Dave Daniels.
He said that he had wrestled three consecutive pay-per-view matches for titles at St.LCW but had failed to secure a win in any of them, as he had been too interested in the fans enjoyment than in personal gain. After witnessing the way in which DD went to amazing lengths to ensure the win despite what the crowd might say, he had experienced a change of heart. He then revealed that he wanted to challenge the Hardcore one to a match for his title there and then. Yorkie being no chicken didnt back down and a ref was called out to oversee the match.
DD however did not leave the arena; instead he went and sat with Jim Bowen on commentary. The match started and the early running belonged to the Yorkster. He had the better of Jason to the delight of the fans and all was going the way of the ginger one until a missed elbow of the top signified a turn in the match. Jason then took control and looked solid as he laid into the towering Yorkie. The match looked almost over but the basketball vest wearer somehow managed to gain the upper hand once more. The match went back and forth for a while until the referee was knocked to the out side after a collision in the corner. Dave Daniels then did a disappearing act from the commentary position returning to the ring with the infamous kendo stick. A stiff blow to the head of Yorkie and several that followed on the ground weakened Hardcore enough. After a pedigree into a face buster and the return of a groggy ref, Jason took victory. Daniels and Jason then left titles raised. The day of the twenty-four carat gold one had finally arrived. |
