Our Guild

The Sudbury & District Quilting and Stitchery Guild was formed in 1975 by a group of 27 women and has grown to over 170 members. Meetings are held weekly on Tuesday evenings from September to early May.

Each week there is a short business meeting and show and tell followed by a workshop or demonstration on a wide variety of needlearts.

For guild members who are not participating in the evening workshops there is usually an In Club Quilt in the frame for everyone to work on or an informal demonstration in quilting or stitchery techniques being given by a fellow Guild member.

In addition to the weekly workshops, special weekend workshops are held 2-3 times a year. These quilting and stitchery workshops feature professional instructors, professional instructors from our own membership and from other guilds.

At the end of the guild year there is an annual banquet with a guest speaker. Each year the discipline of the speaker, either stitchery or quilting, alternates.

Guild members are proud to contribute to their community by making "cuddle quilts" which are donated to social service organizations locally for the benefit of children and seniors in need. Last year Guild members made 200 cuddle quilts for distribution.

In the 1999-2000 guild year the Sudbury & District Quilting and Stitchery Guild twinned with the South Shore Quilters Guild in St. Lambert, Quebec.

The Guild is a member of the Sudbury Arts Council
