| Perhaps the most difficult celebration to offer a reflection on, ironically, is the mystery of the Holy Trinity. God is so many things and at the same time, God is not so many things. To say that we know God is impossible to say with confidence. But God does know us and throughout the unfolding of creation, the Lord has chosen time and time again to reveal bits and pieces of the divine identity to us. From the beginning, GOd has called us into a relationship through the words of the prophets, the advent of the Lord Jesus, and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Perhaps this constant reaching out for a relationship with us can help us know God a bit better. God is calling us into communion. God is calling us to share in the same life that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit share. It's more than just being together. It's more than just knowing each other. God is calling us to share a common union, a common life, and a bond that can never be broken, even by death. Through Jesus, we are called to begin to make this mystery of communion a reality in our world to the best of our ability. We are called to give our lives to our brothers and sisters in service. We are called to receive the lives of others, even those we would rather turn away. Like the Holy Trinity, we have to take an interest in the salvation, well being and growth of one another. We have to care for one another. We have to open our hearts to receive the caring and love of others. It is in this giving and receiving in love among ourselves that we enter into communion with our Loving God. Today we celebrate the communion with God that is guaranteed to us by Jesus in the Holy Spirit. We are also challenged to constantly re-enter into that relationship with God by how we treat one another. Communion is a gift and challenge. It is a call to conversion. It calls us to go beyond ourselves to love others and it graces us with the gift of the love of our brothers and sisters with whom we are on the same journey: the journey toward communion with the Holy Trinity.
