Deacon Elkanah Cushman born Plymouth 1 June 1651 died in Plympton 4 September 1727 in his 77th year. Son of Thomas Cushman of the Fortune (1621) and Mary Allerton of the Mayflower (1620), Elkanah married (1) Plymouth 10 February 1677, Elizabeth Cole, b. Plymouth; died there 4 January 1681/82; daughter of James and Mary (Tilson) Cole. With Elizabeth, Elkanah had three sons, Elkanah, James and Jabez. He married (2) Plymouth 2 March 1683 Martha Cooke, b. Plymouth 16 March 1659; died Plympton 17 September 1722; Martha (Cooke) Cushman's Stone daughter of Jacob and Damaris (Hopkins) Cooke with whom Elkanah Cushman had five children: Allerton, Elizabeth, Josiah, Martha and Mehitable.
