Bundy began professional wrestling in 1981, and before long won the World Class Championship Belt in Texas. The next few years Bundy was a successful Tag Team partner with Masked Superstar (Big John Studd), together winning the NWA National Tag Team Titles and later the same year partnered with "Ravishing" Rick Rude to win Southern Tag Titles.

In 1985 King Kong Bundy Arrived in the WWF and later that year defeated his opponent in just nine seconds at the first WrestleMania. That record would stand for almost 10 years.

Later in 1985, King Kong Bundy destroyed the ribs of Hulk Hogan on WWF's Saturday Night's Main Event. That led to the feud ending in the steel cage match at Wrestlemania 2.

Wrestlemania 3 saw King Kong Bundy giving his patented Bundy Splash a midget wrestler in a mixed tag match, with Hillbilly Jim. He left the WWF soon after.

In 1994, Bundy returned to the WWF to be managed by "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibase.

In 1995, Bundy feuded with The Undertaker, leading to yet another Wrestlemania match. Undertaker pinned King Kong Bundy at Wrestlemania XI.
