The company was successively designated as Captain Deason's Company, Captain McFadden's Company, (Old) Company K, and (New) Company G, 3d Regiment Mississippi Infantry. The "Gainesville Volunteers" mustered into state service at Gainesville, Hancock County, Mississippi, on July 13, 1861. Mustered into Confederate service at Shieldsborough, Hancock County, Mississippi, on October 5, 1861. Originally in the Eighth Regiment State Troops.
