A year and a half later (August 1999), my mom got me an Alvarez from a pawn shop for my 17th birthday (it's the one in the picture to the right) for $200.
Nearly three years later (April or May? 2002), I bought an electric guitar from a college professor for $100. I've only played that guitar a couple of times. I bought an amp in August or September 2006.
In November 2005, I bought my first brand new guitar as a present to myself. It was only $200, so it's nothing fancy, but I love it. It was the first guitar I looked at and it fit the three criteria I was looking for:
- it had to be a different color than the normal light brownish color (preferably black)
- it had to fit my current guitar case (I'm not sure why it wouldn't)
- it had to be, preferably, around $200
- songs I know how to play all the way through
- songs I used to know how to play all the way through (it's not like most are hard and couldn't be figured out with a few minutes, but they just don't come to me anywhere near easily any more)
- songs I might attempt to learn to play relatively soon
