The Department of Fashion Design has signed a Memorandom of Understanding
with the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, University of Central
England, Birmingham, U K. for an Educational Collaboration. This facilitates
strengthening of ties by way of guest lectures, workshops, exchange of
publications and other academic information.
COURSES OFFERED.
1. Diploma in Fashion Design. ( Level 1. )
One year duration, July to April.
Entry requirements:
Pass in 12th. class.
Aptitude and good communication skills.
Normally no age restriction..
Course content:
Basic principles, concept of fashion design and
history of fashion.
Free hand drawing, sketching and illustration techniques.
Colours.
Pattern cutting, construction and sewing of designer garments for all age
groups and
figures through projects.
Study and selection of fabrics.
Visits to garment units, and exhibitions.
Guest lectures and workshops.
Students are encouraged to develop their ideas and creative skills under
guidance.
Personality development.
A good library is available.
2. Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design. (Level 2. )
One year duration July to April.
This programme follows a flexible modular pattern,
amed at young talented girls interested in a career in fashion and clothing
industry.
Entry requirements:
Graduation in any discipline preferred
Or Completition of level 1.
Entrance Test / Interview for others
Creativity and a flair for art
Knowledge of sketching, patterning and
construction essential
Course content :
Fashion Art.
History of fashion and costumes.
Apparel design, free hand sketching and fashion
illustrations.
Pattern making, grading, draping and apparel construction
Specialization in ladies dresses, jackets and customisation.
Study of fabrics, textures, weaves
Computer aided textile designing, block printing, tie and dye and bathik.
Management, marketing and merchandising..
Colours..
Surface ornamentation and accessories.
Field trips, guest lectures and workshops.
Personality development and grooming.
Internship in a garment unit.
Library assignments and portfolio presentatio
Final collections.
( Students are encouraged to develop their individual ideas and techniques.)
