WHAT WOOD HAVE BEEN

Kerry Wood (2-2) was wild for a second straight start, walking seven and giving up five runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings.

"It's ridiculous," said Wood, who also had elbow ligament replacement surgery and missed the entire 1999 season.

"Lack of control, lack of concentration. The ball was all over the place and that's your result."

He walked Dave Roberts leading off the fifth, Izturis chipped a double into left and then Wood hit Paul Lo Duca to load the bases.

Green, in a 1-for-13 slump, then hit a two-run single to right. After an infield single by Eric Karros, Beltre's sacrifice fly made it 3-0.

With one out in the sixth, Roberts walked for the third time, stole second and scored on another Izturis double, making it 4-0 and finishing Wood.
