Deep Thoughts From A Shallow Mind - August 18, 2000

Greetings! Thanks for stopping by to read my first online commentary. I'm actually not sure why I'm doing this, but hey, it's quarter after 1 in the morning, and I'm bored. That, and you people need some more stuff to read!

First and foremost, I'd like to congratulate Rockford 2000, Gorgeous Michelle Starr, Ladies Choice, and Juggernaut on a "job" well done on this weeks WCW Thunder. In case you missed it, the four of them got squashed in under two minutes by Kronic. LC took a sweet Meltdown, and Juggernaut took their finisher at the end, and made it look sweet. The commentary was quite funny too, especially when Stevie Ray called them g-brones (or something like that). Once again guys, great work!

The next big show in New West is on Saturday the 26th, and it's shaping up to be great. I'm defending the Jobberweight Title against Lucious Layne Fontaine, who of course will be accompanied by The Count and Kristina Cream. I haven't worked with Layne yet, but I'm looking forward to it because I've heard many good things about him. Man, it's hard to believe that I've held that belt for almost six months now. Right on!

Well, enough about wrestling. Let's talk about my massive three week road trip last month, with my partners in crime, Mark and Chris! Man, it was great. Except for the first night, that is. We found out that the drive from Port Coquitlam BC to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is approximately 14 hours, while travelling at speeds up to 180 km/hr. That was kind of freaky. Yellowstone itself was awesome. Of course we checked out Old Faithful, and since we were there, the entire upper geyser basin. It was really a good learning experience, and hey, the smell of the sulpher wasn't too overpowering. We then decided to get stupid and get within two feet of a bigass bison (it was in our way!) The drive through the eastern portion of the park was beautiful. From then on, it was onto Devil's Tower in eastern Wyoming. If you're ever seen Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, then you know what it is! We spent the night in Deadwood, South Dakota, which is only a few short miles away from Sturgis. Man, what a cool town! It's gimmick is an old west town. and it comes complete with cowboy showdowns on Main Street. I would have liked it even more if the casinos paid off a bit better, but the $1.99 breakfast buffets made up for it! From there, we saw the obligatory Mt Rushmore (it was on the way!) but were too cheap to see Crazy Horse. Oh well, it wasn't finished anyways. Our next voyage was the Colorado Rockies. Damn, what a disappointment. The Rockies in BC are so much more impressive. Down there, they're just like little mounds with a couple of trees.

We then ended up in Utah. Friends and fans, I can't stress this enough. Southern Utah is INCREDIBLE!!! Grand Staircase, Capitol Reef. Escalante, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks are ALL must sees! I can't believe I'm saying this, but DAMN I wanna go back to Utah! And since we were in the area, we decided to make a quick trek down to Arizona, to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It truly is a breathtaking and somewhat humbling experience. It's just so vast. I can't wait to do the hike to the bottom sometime!

The next stop on our trip... VIVA LAS VEGAS!!! 6 days (turned into 8 because we cancelled LA so we could stay there more) in the most exciting city on the planet! We stayed at the Tropicana, which is in the heart of the southern strip where all of the action is. All we had to do was cross the intersection, and we could be at New York New York, Excalibur, or MGM Grand. A 5 minute walk could take us to Monte Carlo, Luxor, or Mandalay Bay. We had it all!

The best thing about The Tropicana was the 24 hour pool. The even better part was that they kicked kids out at 7pm, leaving it open to us slightly more mature people! The place has excellent live shows too. The Illusionary Magic of Rick Thomas is incredible (his girls are easy to look at too!). Folies Bergere is an incredible show too, especially the late one which is topless!

Probably the one highlight out of Vegas (or the whole trip for that matter) was meeting Allegra, by far the most incredible girl I've ever had the privlege of meeting. Seeing how I have the worst luck in the world, she had to leave the day after we met. That really sucked, but there's always the future!

We had to leave Vegas eventually (cry) so we ended up in Reno next for three nights. No, I don't have a gambling problem! (Mark and Chris on the other hand....) Didn't really do too much. Watched Tanya Tucker's concert at Harrah's, which was a good show. On Friday night, me and my buddies entered a swimsuit competition. Heh. We got royally thumped. I guess none of us had "it!" Next was Crater Lake, in Oregon. The place we stayed at didn't have a TV!!! But it was ok, because we had a deck of cards and lots of booze. I had my rollerblades too, which I made good use of.

The next day, we were scheduled to meet our friend Duncan at the Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood. Have any of you seen "The Shining" starring Jack Nicholson? Well, that's the hotel we stayed at. That's right, The Overlook! We had a blast on the mountain. Got all dressed up in our suits and had a fance dinner. Then my drunken friends got into the booze again, and after that, we proceeded to the swimming pool where we got kicked out. We're not sure if they closed it, or if we were being too loud and obnoxious, and people started complaining. Oh well!

NEXT UP... The big finale! It was time for us to put our physical fitness to the test, and climp to the top of Mt St Helens. I tell ya, that was the most incredibly brutal experience of my entire life. I ached all over, but when it was all said and done, we conquered it. It was an incredible experience! And from there on, it was back to home. A succesful trip! We made it back in one piece without anyone getting arrested. I'll be posting some pictues soon enough, so keep an eye open!

I guess I'll shut up now. Thanks for reading, and as always, thank you so much for your support! See ya in New West on the 26th.

-Ray
