Moscow Excursions
In 2003 Seamtown announced it would no longer operate regularly scheduled excursions from Scranton to Moscow, a 26 mile round trip on the former DL&W main.  In the mind set of "get it while you can" the photographer set out record some images of the soon-to-be discontinued train ride.
A steam locomotive exiting a tunnel at speed is about one of the most dramitic occurances in railroading as one is going to find.  Here the 2317 puts on quite a show as it exits the Nay Aug tunnel on its way to Moscow.
The Nay Aug tunnel, one of the oldest railroad tunnels in America, was been completed in the early 1850's.  This view, and the one above, were recored almost 150 years later on August 3rd 2003.
Several miles further east, 2317 has it's train of six coaches in tow as it rolls through Dunmore, PA on June 28th.
In a period-style photograph, the 2317 is working upgrade, approaching the town of Elmhurst, PA, also on June 28th.
Further down the track, but still in Elmhurst, the 2317 makes a fine show as it approaches the Elmhurst Resovoir on August 24th.
Nearing its destination of Moscow, PA the Steamtown excursion comes within easy view of PA Poute 435 at this fine photo spot on September 13th.
