4TH Barking and Dagenham Scout Group

What do we do?
Each section of the group has its own things it has to do as well as district events they attend. Each week we meet each section does a variety of things they do which each individual learns from and has lots of fun doing.
BEAVERS
The beavers motto is "fun and friends" and this is exactly what they do. Beavers are the starting point of the scouting career with each child starting at 6 years old to 8 years old. The beavers do lots of craftwork and of course learn about scouting. Beavers also play games, meet new friends, gain badges for their hard work meet new people and most importantly become cubs.
Beavers also go on outings. This year our beavers have been on visits to the fire station and joined in on our millennium camp weekend for a day.
CUBS
Cubs are the next stage of the scouting career. Cubs are aged between 8 and 10 years old. Each cub is able to gain a number of different proficiency badges and awards for their work. Cubs also play games, look after them selves and their surroundings help others and then become scouts. Cubs also have the opportunity to go camping. When at camp each child gets to learn about nature and other basic things such as how to light a fire put up a tent e.t.c.
In the past year our cubs have taken part in many of district events that have been held such as the 5-aside football and sports day and the swimming gala as well as events that need their knowledge of what they have learnt.
Scouts
The scouts are meant to be the more mature and knowledge able people of the group. This is the next stage of the scouting career. Scouts make their own decisions, plan their own activities as well as "challenge themselves". Scouts all work as a team as well as learn about leadership and commitment. Scouts also undertake outdoor activities and challenges. Like cubs, scouts can gain proficiency badges but have to go in to more depth and challenge to gain them. Scouts learn to be independent and learn to make decisions as a team and for them selves.
In the past year our scouts have took part in the millennium camp weekend. The 5 aside football, swimming gala as well as sports day. The scouts have also took part in events that require knowledge too. |
