When I was a teen, Nickelodeon (a kid's TV network) had on two very cool shows dealing with summer camp. They were Salute Your Shorts, and Hey Dude. Both shows were great, but one was the closest thing to being accurate to what Scout Summer Camp was about. Salute Your Shorts was a very crazy show. The campers picked on one of the counselors. But this show was not that accurate, Scouting is concerned. To me, Hey Dude was the closest thing to accurate to Boy Scout Style Summer Camp (before I forget, that show took place on a dude ranch). Heck, even younger than that, TV and the big screen had some Summer Camp related stuff.

Ahh, Boy Scout Summer Camp. I attended there from 1989-1992 as a Scout and 1993 as a Staff member (kitchen). What went through my mind then? Well...

SUNDAY MORNING: On our way, I cannot wait until we get there.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON: We are there. Now we get to tour the facility.
SUNDAY EVENING: The supper was ok. The campfire was great. Now, what badges to work on?

MONDAY MORNING: Cannot wait to get up to have breakfast and sign up for classes.
MONDAY AFTERNOON: Working on merit badges and rank advancement, cannot wait to finish them.
MONDAY EVENING: The supper was good. The chapel was good. Now, am I done with the merit hadges yet?

TUESDAY MORNING: Cannot wait to get up to have breakfast and continue working on merit badges.
TUESDAY AFTERNOON: Continuing on working on merit badges and rank advancement, gotta get stuff for tomorrow for meals (eating out on the field).
TUESDAY EVENING: The supper was better. The shotgun demonstration was excellent. Now, I am getting close of getting the badges done.

WEDNESDAY MORNING: Gotta get up early to help cook breakfast (we are eating in the field) and continue going to classes.
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: Lunch was ok. I need to continue working on merit badges and rank advancement, I am almost there.
WEDNESDAY EVENING: The supper was good. Mom and dad came by The midweek campfire was great. Now, I want to get done with these badges.

THURSDAY MORNING: Cannot wait to get up to have breakfast and hopefully finish up these badges today.
THURSDAY AFTERNOON: I almost have the badges done.
THURSDAY EVENING: The supper was good. The OA Calling-Out Ceremony was EXCELLENT. Now, I am done with the merit hadges!

FRIDAY MORNING: Cannot wait to get up to have breakfast and get ready for the campwide game.
FRIDAY AFTERNOON: The campwide game was excellent.
FRIDAY EVENING: The supper was good. The Closing Campfire was memoriable. Now, I cannot believe this. Summer Camp is almost over. I need to start packing for home.

SATURDAY MORNING: Gotta get up early to pack for home and have breakfast. We are going home this morning. I earned so many badges this week. I cannot believe it is over.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON: We are home and the summer camp for us is over. Cannot wait for next year. I have had so much fun this week.
SATURDAY EVENING: The supper was great (mom made it). I told mom and dad about camp. Tonight, I sleep in my own room. I am glad to be home, but sad that Summer Camp went so quick.

NEXT SUNDAY MORNING: I am telling people at church and my friends about my experience at camp.

I hope that is how the Scouts see summer camp. Though, field day this year is on Thursday. Maybe next year, I will be with the Troop.

Well, until next time.....

Sincerely yours in Boy Scouting
