first a spark...then a flame. The spirit of Boy Scouting in Loogootee, Indiana burns brightly

THE WEBMASTER

Thank You Daddy

Let me make out a list:
1. He made sure that there was a roof over us
2. He made sure that we were fed
3. He made sure that we were clothed
4. He instilled a strong work ethic in us
5. He taught us to do duty to God (before I became active in Scouting) since he was a minister
6. He would listen to our problems

I could go on forever, but I must say that to me mothers are the heart and soul of the family. BUT, I must also say that fathers are the flame and spirit of the family.

My dad taught me everything that is needed to be a great citizen of the nation. For one thing, he would make sure we went to Church (since he was a minister of both the Baptist and Wesleyan faiths). He would make sure that we did our chores. If not, we would face consequences.

For several years, my dad was a volunteer firefighter for various agencies (recently, the Martin County Civil Defense Fire and Rescue). Because of that, I had a stint with the MC-CD as a firefighter (due to time restraints, I am unable to continue activity with them). I would ask him to talk to me about various fires. Back in the early 1980s, he helped fight a fire in Shoals. He smelled like smoke, but he did the job.

He did everything for the family. Since mom's passing, it is now mine and my siblings turn to take care of him. Am I mourning him? NOPE. At the time of composing this, my dad is sitting across the room from me.

The reason I am writing this is Father's Day is closing in.

Eventually, he will read this. When so, I can tell him, "thank you daddy."

Hey, do me one favor. PLEASE say thank you to your father.

Sincerely yours in Boy Scouting
