This is about what my 86' looks like. My dad bought it new in 86', put 180K+ miles on it with out any problems and very little work. Then he bought a 96' Jetta wolfs. ed. and parked the 86 next to the house where it sat for a 2-3 years untill I gave up hope that'd I'd get a newer "sports" car and put it back on the road.
I drove it for a couple of months untill the orginal clutch started getting real weak so I decided fix it and "some" other stuff (you can see where this going). She still needs some work, but all the "nickle dime" stuff like windows, mirrors, locks, trim pieces, and cruise control still work fine.
This is my crappy dub page. I don't have a digital camera so this site will probably suck. I might do more to it some time. Currently I'm the proud owner of an 86' GLI Wolfs Ed.(project), an 89' GLI Helios blue Wolfs. Ed., and an 88' GLI faded red shitbox parts car I picked up for $200.
I also share an 86 Buick Park Ave. with limo tint windows as a back up, and I fix & maintain  my brothers 92' Passat. I had (well still have) a 90' Passat that was lowered on some old school 15" Fittipaldi 5-point star dished rims (nice and euro style), modded air box, tint, chip, I did a little headwork when I rebuilt it, and every little thing on that car worked perfectly. My bro totaled it last Jan. when he was in a 10 car pile up on 62 west where it goes to one lane right before you go over 35W. He was in the middle of the worst part of it, but the Passat fared the best. The tow guys were suprised the roof didn't buckle, all the doors still worked fine, and the trunklight was still on dispite the fact that the battery was smashed. Just goes to show those german engineers in thier white lab coats knew what they were doing. Well so long for now, happy dubbin'.
This is close to the look I'm going for except mine will be rolling on my old Passat's  15" Fittipaldi's, and have smoked signals. I haven't decided on the route I want to go with engine, but its definatly keeping it's 9A 020 trans. It's also has (but not installed) H&R springs, Boge Pro-Gas progressive shocks, poly bushing through out, nuespeed front, rear, & upper front strut tie bars, S.S. brake lines, TT exaust, and some other O.E. "wear & tear" items sitting boxes next to it. Needless to say my garage is a disaster zone. No one can find anything but me.
