Tail Fairings
Once the plug is to the final shape, additional pieces are added to form flanges on the tool to aid in manufacturing the final part.  The bottom part at right that looks like a clothes iron was included to accomodate the step in the final part where the aluminum protrudes past the elevator counterweight.
A dam is added before laying up the first side of the tool so there will be a well-defined mating surface for the two halves.  The tool is made in halves to facilitate removing the final part.
The same process is repeated for the rudder fairing, including the dam.
