| The plug for the bottom of the rudder was a little more complicated. There were several tight areas that needed to be worked into the design. Additionally, I wanted to incorporate some way to more easily install the finished part and get a nice tight fit around the rudder horn. A small piece was made later to wrap around the front of the rudder spar. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Adding the fairing for the light at the back of the rudder looked tough, but turned out to be pretty easy once I figured out that the diameter of the light blister was the same as the diameter of the inside of a piece of PVC pipe. The it was a simple matter to Bondo the inside of the pipe, then Bondo that piece to the plug and blend it in. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The final plug with dam is shown at right. It was almost necessary to make the tool in three parts to accomodate the shape at the front of the fairing, but in the end there was enough flex in the finished part to get it out of the tool without breaking it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
