| In stock configuration, the baggage compartment occupies the space between the instrument panel and the firewall. It also drops down the right side to the cockpit floor. Many builders are opting to elimanate the drop-down section altogether to make more legroom. This was the first of two modifications I made to the front baggage compartment. |

| Through it all Bandit maintained guard over my chair. She did a good job - it was never stolen - but every time I went to use it there was a dog in the way. The second modification was to add access doors. In stock form, the two bulkheads that form the back of the baggage compartment are solid. This makes access to the back of the panel incredibly difficult. The access doors allow work on the back of the instrumants without removing the whole panel. |

| The piece on the left had to be made from scratch to cover the hole left by removing the drop-down section. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| It was decided to add one door to the top bulkhead and two to the bottom. One big door in the bottom would have been easier, but the brake lines are suspended from the bottom of the bulkhead and keeping the material in the middle should add to its strength. Both of these pieces were already riveted in to the fuselage when the kit arrived. A benefit of taking them out to cut the doors was the chance to fix the incredibly poor workmanship that went into the bottom bulkhead. As received, the bulkhead was severely warped and too wide for the fuselage to the point it was actually bulging out the fuselage skins. |

| Shown from below, the piece is essentially channel made from sheet stock riveted on one side with nutlates on the other, allowing removal if necessary. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
