| I had seen photos of an RV-8 from up north that incorporated several nice modifications. One was the incorporation of overhead mounted rudder pedals with wider spacing. I talked to the builder and decided that mod would not be worth the effort for me. But another mod, the inclusion of consoles running down the sides of the cockpit were just too good to pass up. I had really enjoyed that feature during a few hours I spent in a T-28, and it would provide additional room for switches, breakers, fuses, etc. So began what turned out to be the most difficult and time consuming part of the project to date... |

| At right is the stock right console arrangement. Another small piece can be added that runs diagonally up the forward section to accomodate fuses, switches, etc. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Work was started by creating a template out of cardboard to check fit and determine the approximate shape of the piece before cutting aluminum. Once finalized, the shape was transferred to aluminum sheet and the fun began. Multiple tries were required before gettting it right, then it took many more hours of hand filing to get the pieces to fit just right. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
