After a two year sabbatical the band re-entered the musical arena with the launch of their own label contact high records. Initially two eps were released, mindreader (2001) and fading out (2002). These met with such an enthusiastic response that a follow up album became inevitable. The release of the debut album beyond the beyond on their own contact high records in association with Daniel Wylies Raft Records (April 2003) saw a massive upturn in the bands fortunes. An impressive 10 out of the 12 album tracks have received radio/TV airplay since its release. The release of the acclaimed debut album brought invitations to perform at Glasgows Gig on the Green and the citys 2003 Hogmanay event as well as a date opening the show for Deep Purple at Glasgows SECC. The band are presently putting the final touches to their follow up album Always in the Now due for release towards the end of 2004 on their own contact high records. An appetiser, these things can be found on the Biff Bang Pow Records compilation album Shake (Aug 2004). |
Largely instrumental at first, and based around late-sixties and early-seventies funk and soul. Still all covers, although we only had a couple of numbers that 'normal people' would recognise - the songs were picked because we liked them, rather than to appeal to lowest common denominator drunkards. We then started moving into more club-based gigs on the hip hop/funk and mod/sixties scenes, crossed the border, did our first single, and started writing stuff. Gary phased himself out this year to start a family, and Ross came on board, strong and right, and good at tieing knots! We're now working on our album. Recorded the material written with Gary, and are honing the newer Ross-era material until we want to record that. As we're not a commercial band, we're taking the time it takes to do it the way we want it, which feels great, as there'll be no aspect of 'oh the record company wanted us to do this', or 'you have to make it sound like this or radio won't take you seriously' or whatever - 100% pure as intended, the best we can possibly do, if you don't like it, tough. |
