Chad's Summary: After an enemy attack on the SGC, General Hammond decides to retire. He is replaced by General Bauer (Lawrence Dane). General Bauer reassigns Carter and Jackson to other projects at the SGC. Carter's new task is to combine Naquadah technology with a nuclear weapon while Jackson gets a desk job. O'Neill takes a vacation after a confrontation with the new general. Hammond tells O'Neill the real reason for his early retirement -- Hammond's family was threatened with harm by the NID. O'Neill teams up with a former prison inmate named Harry Maybourne to assist him in helping Hammond. Maybourne was imprisoned for treason stemming from the events of the episode Watergate. The unlikely team's search for evidence, on the NID, leads to Senator Kinsey. The new weapon is to be tested on a planet with plant and animal life. Jackson and Carter urge the new general to stop the test, because Naquadah is already present on the planet in question. If the test is to go forward, the resulting explosion could be more destructive than originally thought. Bauer overrules their objections and goes forward with the test which causes an evacuation of the SGC. Meanwhile, O'Neill and Maybourne crash a party given by Senator Kinsey. O'Neill bribes Kinsey at gunpoint. He then uses the information, obtained by Maybourne from Kinsey's computer, to get General Hammond back in command of the SGC. The Stargate is still connected to the test planet, and then shuts down a little after the thirty--eight minute window that a Stargate can normally remain open. General Hammond gets his job back.
