Chad's Summary: SG-1 discovers a culture based on the Christian religion on an alien planet. Upon entering the village, SG-1 inadvertently frightens the people into their homes. They also find a young woman named Mary (Laura Mennell) who is set to be sent to Sokar as a host for a Goa'uld. O'Neill discovers she has chicken pox and gives her medicine to treat the disease. Upon his return, the Canon (Alan C. Peterson) uses a ring to strike down SG-1. The Canon also calls Teal'c a minion of Satan, because Teal'c's gold serpent tattoo is considered to be the mark of the devil. Furthermore, the Canon chooses who will be sacrificed to the devil. Teal'c is forced to under go various tests in order to "prove" he is an agent of the devil. As a test, Teal'c is thrown into water and presumed dead. The Canon is used to wielding the power of God--the choice over who lives and who dies--over the villagers. The rest of SG-1 are released and told to go through the Circle of Darkness (Stargate). Simon (David McNally) must perform a ritual that may, very well, kill Mary in order to "save" her soul. The ritual involves drilling a hole in Mary's head. To save Mary, Jackson tells Simon that they can go to Earth with SG-1. Teal'c is not dead. He awakens and SG-1 are chosen as sacrifices, along with Mary, by the Canon. An Unas (Richard Marwich/Voice--Christopher Judge) comes to take the sacrifices to Sokar. Mary and SG-1 tumble down a hill and run into the forest. The Canon threatens Simon with his life, and Simon goes into the forest in search of Mary and SG-1. The Unas recaptures his former captives. Simon fires Teal'c's staff weapon at the Unas three times. After some time, O'Neill and Teal'c go in search of Simon and the Unas while Cater, Jackson, and Mary head toward the Stargate. The Unas is dead leaving an unconscious Simon and the Canon alive. At the Stargate, Carter realizes that the Goa'uld left the Unas and went into the Canon. O'Neill kills the Goa'uld. With his last breathe, the Canon asks forgiveness and Simon prays for him. After Simon and Mary promise to bury the gate, SG-1 return home.

Historical Connections:
* The episode "Demons" has a historical parallel with the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. The episode is also similar to the 1996 motion picture The Crucible which depicted the witch trials in grand Hollywood style taking dramatic license with actual historical fact. The film and the episode depict people who have the power to choose who lives or who dies.
Destination:
* The planet to which SG-1 gates has a name which is unknown, and the SGC computer designation for the planet is not given. The general name for the people, as a whole, on the planet is also not given. However, near the Stargate exists a woodland or forest area. The culture of the people resembles the culture of Medieval England on Earth.
Actor Tracker:
* Regular cast actor Don S. Davis (General George S. Hammond) does not appear in this episode.
* David McNally appeared as Hanno in Cor--Ai.
