Going up

The plane left Birmingham Friday at the crack of dawn. It crammed 43 weary businessmen and 1 tourist into a fairly small space.

The flight was smooth, quiet and quick. Ohare is a huge field. Planes were landing and departing on multiple runways constantly.

The crosswalk going to the shuttle train is very cool. Open beam construction, lots of glass and bright contrasting colors made the hike far from boring.

The hike to the train station was long. The moving sidewalk is very different from those I've been on in all other places. Instead of metal grids like escalators, theirs is a very soft rubber mat. It felt like two layers of the gym mats we wrestled on.

This cool mural livened up the tile walls.

Talk about culture shock!!! As soon as I got off the train in downtown, I had to navigate through this crowd. The parade to honor the White Sox was scheduled to start at 12. This image was shot at 11! More than 2 million people lined 12 blocks of the loop. Cannons were spaced along the route and they shot 13 tons of confetti 100 feet into the air.
In Monroeville it makes the news if more than 100 people gathter in the same place. ;-)
