The John A. LaPolla Post #8728 was officially formed on February 28, 1987, holding its initial meetings at the Firehouse on Newport Road. In 1978, the Post constructed its present headquarters on Wood Lane. In 1990, the building was expanded, and the newly enlarged facility was utilized to host the Town's Bicentennial Celebration in the Summer of 1992. In 1999, the VFW commenced construction of another addition to the present facility, which was dedicated to the memory of Cpl. Stanley Sroka, KIA, at a special dedication ceremony and dinner, held on Memorial Day, 2001.
