Kevin with his "braids" - April, 1996
D.O.B.:  July 16, 1978
Took his own life:  March 27, 1997
Kevin loved eagles, which is why I have chosen this background.
Kevin took his own life on March 27, 1997.   When he got his driver's license, he made sure he was designated as an organ donor.  When he died, his vital organs (heart, kidneys, etc.) were unable to be used, but the Red Cross did use his corneas, his heart valves, the two long bones in his legs and the skin from his back.  We have never heard how these were used, except for the heart valves.  The November following his death, we were notified by the Red Cross that the recipients of his heart valve would like to contact us.  We have since been able to meet with the family.  The recipient was a young boy who would have died without the valve replacement.  The similarities in their names and father's names were amazing.  The recipient's name was Kevin, his father's name was Terry and our addresses were both Route 4 (though in different cities of the state).
This is a picture of the recipient of Kevin's heart valve:
The Survivors of Suicide support group (S.O.S.) in Norman, Oklahoma has been a tremendous help in coping with Kevin's death.  S.O.S. is a nationally recognized organization with support groups in just about every state.  The site is very informative.  You can check it out by clicking on this link:  http://www.survivorsofsuicide.com
