Although the Great Wall of China was an architectural wonder, it lacks many key structural features. However, it does include a few. The doorways in the wall are arched, much like those of the Romans. Curved bricks were stacked, ending with a keystone at the top. The arches distrubuted the weight of the wall to the ground, minimizing the stress on itself.  Wooden beams assisted in the construction and supported the structure from within. There are no intended cantilevers in the wall, although some may argue the case of a brick that sticks out slightly.
The eastern section of the Great Wall was made mostly of brick, while the western section was made of yellow sandy soil and jarrah branches. Materials depended on availability, and strength.
