Those Were The Days My Friend

Ray Anthony is at Armar Ballroom tonight. Well, maybe his records in the Big Gym. We will go dance the Bunny Hop. (hop - hop - hop) Pink Mr. B collar shirts and white bucks are the most likely costume for the guys. The girls will have Poodle skirts, fuzzy sweaters and saddle shoes.

At Armar and Danceland, by the way, those little bitty glasses of pop are called set ups. They are served less than full for a reason!

There is this Italian kid who moved here from California. His dad brought this wonderful new food called Pizza to Cedar Rapids. You should see him dance. But it is a good thing our parents haven't! He has taught that nice Gladwin girl to dance like that too!

The chaperons tonight are "Curly" Earl Klinzman and Miss (stand up straight!) Hamblin.

We will all go out to Todd's after the dance. Be careful you do not drive off the Old Marion Road Viaduct!. On second thought maybe we will go "cruise the loop" for a while and then stop at Joe and Cliff's for a burger and a coke.

Well, you get the idea! Help us take a stroll down Memory Lane. Read what other classmates have sent in. Maybe it will stir memories of those days for you to share with us!

The famous poem....Ladies and Gentlemen, Hoboes and Tramps, Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bow-legged ants. I come before you to stand behind you to tell you something I know nothing about. Addmission is free, pay at the door. Plenty of room; sit on the floor. Who knows the rest of the poem????????????

Early morning band practice for half time activities.....every morning of the week when there was a home football game on Friday night.

One day during English Lit class while studying the poems of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns, the teacher said, "To truly understand the lyrics of Robert Burns, you must have a wee bit of scotch in you." Five minutes later after the laughter stopped, class resumed.

The guys in the class sighing over Breezie......and her sweaters and blazers......whoever will forget her????

Meis' Store. We use to run over there to get between class treats when the lunch hour time was changed. We thought we would starve. We just had to have Twinkies.

The last day of Senior classes before graduation a bunch of senior girls in the cafeteria decided they did not want to be "locked up" on their last day of school. They bolted out of the cafeteria en masse. At commencement practice after school the participants in the mass exodus were called by name to report to the principal's office. The teachers were not "looking the other way" and put the girls on report.

Remember when we were able to walk all the way to Kingston Stadium for football games and then walk all the way to Nick's on A Avenue after the game..... In The Dark.....and never had to worry about anything or anyone. Not that way today.
