| THE PROCESS You will need to: Step 1: Complete the Pre-Assessment Step 2: Meet with your facilitator to decide which national park your ranger team will study. (National Park Choices) Step 3: Meet with your group to select a specific research job for each ranger in your team. (Geologist, Botanist/Zoologist, Time Traveler) Step 4: Study your job description, ask questions about it and understand your individual role [Lesson on ranger jobs] Step 5: As a ranger team, contact your park with at least one (1) e-mail and one (1) snail mail to ask for additional resources--travel guides, brochures, maps, pictures, etc. [Lesson on letter writing format, e-mail] [business letter format handout] Step 6: Research your national park using the activities for your job description. (Use all available print materials and online resources) Step 7: Keep up with your research with an electronic and paper file. Make sure to give credit for all sources used. Important Reminder: Keep up with all sources as you go. Each ranger team will keep a Park Portfolio. [Lesson on citing resources/bibliographies] [Bibliography sample handout] Step 8: Interact and share your research with your ranger team during team meetings (ongoing as needed) [reflection guidelines handout] Step 9: Using your research findings, meet with your ranger team to decide on the product choices you will use in your final culminating performance Trekking Across America: Touring our National Parks. Submit a list of any materials needed. Step 10: Describe the plan of action for completing the project so all parts will be ready by the due date. Submit a timeline to your facilitator with each ranger�s responsibilities to the team project.
