What Do I love about Godzilla?

If you watch any of the 24 Godzilla films, you know one thing, they look really cheap! You have a guy in a rubber suit, that looks liks a rubber suit. He is required to trample through little plastic tanks and cardboard buildings. Little toy planes on strings shoot fireworks at him. WHY DO I LOVE THE DAMN THING SO MUCH????
Let's start off with the whole concept. It's everyone's basic fear that a sign of the past will bring down the technology of the present. But if you couple the object with an element of the present in order to justify its existence, in this case nuclear energy, then you have an engine of destruction capable of destroying the civilized world. Godzilla is such an engine. In the original film, he was an extinct dinosaur, somehow revived through mankind's use of nuclear energy. Reborn at over three hundred feet, he instinctually goes after that which spawned him and tries to destroy him, mankind! He is the ultimate metaphor for man unwittingly creating a way to destroy himself.
And then let's look at it for what it is: He's a guy in a rubber suit! There is no way around it! He goes around the city destroying it, only it's all made out of the cheapest materials around ie, CARDBOARD! Yes kids, it's all fake! And the fighting, it makes the WWF look real! Monsters in rubber suits slapping themselves silly and slowly. Plastic tanks mlting to the fury of an off camera blowtorch, people running away from a "bluescreened" or a rear projected enormous beast. Brother, it don't get much more chessy than that....
Let's also assume for a moment that these event actually happen. The japanese military seems to have technologically advanced weaponry. In every film the have laser beams and energy beam vehicles that zap the huge monster (mind you, it has little effect). But still, why hasn't the US tapped into this technology? And the residents react to the monster's arrival like it's a fire drill!!!! You always see the uniformed people directing people out of the city, they have their belongings in hand, only an occassion sign of painc on one or two people. You think that they teach monster evacuation at the schools or something.
