We list here some printed and broadcast resources that may be of interest to you and also point you to some web resources. TelevisionOur Santa Cruz cable TV system, Comcast, occasionally has Scandinavian shows or movies on the international channel, which I can't currently find on the lineup. Sorry! RadioYou can also listen to radio stations from all over the world over the web! All over the world people are taking local broadcast radio and making it available on the web. Radio over the web is much clearer than via shortwave, but perhaps not as exciting. Our own local KPIG was one of the pioneers and is also one the most popular web radio stations - extremely popular in Scandinavia I am told. You will want a 56K modem, which you probably are using right now, or better, such as DSL at home. There are numerous ways to find these radio stations. You might have RealPlayer already installed on your computer and this can find radio stations for you, or perhaps Microsoft MediaPlayer. With a quick search I found two directories of web radio: http://www.radio-locator.com and http://www.web-radio.fm There are a number of publications that are published weekly in the United States. Some are native language only, others are mixed with English articles. You can have these mailed to you. Bien: a Danish weekly. Phone 818-845-7300 in Burbank, CA. Subscription is $30 per year. Western Viking: a Norwegian-American weekly. Phone 206-784-4617 in Seattle, WA. Subscription is $35 per year. Vestkusten: a Swedish-American weekly. Phone 415-381-5149 in Mill Valley, CA or email [email protected]. Subscription is $28 per year. WebThere are a wide variety of resources on the web that link us to Scandinavia - in fact the resources are too rich. If you want to look up culture, travel or history, try any of your common search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, or MSN.
