"You are my home.... You make me strong... And in this world of strangers, I belong to someone..."
("You Are My Home" from the musical The Scarlet Pimpernel)
"He asked me if I knew the Scarlet Pimpernel. I assume that I don't." - Ozzy, speaking to his leader Percy, THE Scarlet Pimpernel
Okay so a couple years and four versions of the musical LATER - The Scarlet Pimpernel closed on Broadway, and the National Tour began, known as "SP 4.0" among hardcore dorky fans, and with new cast replacements including the beautiful baritone William Michals as Chauvelin, and the insipidly annoying soprano Amy Bodnar - well, at least she was annoying in this show, I'm sure she's done some wonderful work, she's got a gorgeous voice, but oh my GOD.  The picture of her below represents how I felt about her performance in this show:
Okay so -  I saw the tour when it opened at New Haven - and the GORGEOUS Douglas Sills was back in the lead role, and if we didn't both look so freezing and ill in the photo I have of us after the show, I'd share.  And later that year, when the tour came to Providence, this time with the GENIUS Ron Bohmer back as The SP - A MESAMIES MEETING WAS HELD!!  One of the first, I do believe - when V came down from Boston,  Missy came down from Vancouver, and Lisa up from Virginia!
Here's a highlight of the  trip - pretending Ron Bohmer was my boyfriend. When I saw the show on my own that Friday, I told him very pulled together like that it was wonderful to have him back in Providence and he always wowed me.  He responded with "Aren't you a sweetheart" and signed my program,  said, "Wait - your name is liz, right?" - INSERT ME FREAKING OUT, because I thought he remembered me from when I saw him in NYC.  Of course, the more likely answer, was that he saw where William Michals signed my program "To Liz" - and added my name to ensure he'd remain in my teenage fantasies of him.  Well... it worked.  And when I came back with friends, the man complimented the fabulous jacket I wear in the pictures and was quite camera friendly.  I think, since we're not looking at the same cameras, it looks more like we're friends, and not ... actor and fan.
Of course what made the trip truly memorable was meeting these fabulous ladies -  I was SHOCKED when my father approved their staying at our house.  It was a weekend full of first time bonding, and girlworthy swooning - V acting like  a devil - don't be fooled by her angel face to the right, cause Lisa sure ain't!  Those girls have SASS and aren't afraid to use it!
There was only one moment during that weekend when our friendliness was tested - and that was when they started fighting over my Scarlet Pimpernel Barbie dolls (you cannot get them in stores.... Esme made them for me... cause... we rock) - the Chauvelin one was especially popular (hey, the ladies like the bad guys) but Lisa interceded with Elton Ken (my favorite bounder, and the character I most relate to)...
This is me with Adam Arian, a young actor who appeared as Hal, one of the bounders of the SP's, and he went to Brown University!  And I thought he was cute.... so.... my friends made me get my photo taken with him... Seriously, they forced me into it.  If I was older and bolder, I totally would have gone for the hookup.  He dropped his cravat in the huge dance number, it was the funniest thing I've ever seen onstage.
The weekend was swoonworthy, and a BLAAAAAST!!  And it was only the beginning.  For after Missy, V, and Lisa took Providence....
WE INVADED VANCOUVER, CANADA!!!

And the blackmail has surfaced, HERE - on my Friends page!
