| 6 July 2002 12:59 am PST Saturday Tonight was incredibly productive, so I'm in a very pleasant mood. I didn't go out. My brother went dancing at this great club without me (I'm lacking in cool clubbing clothes out here) and Josh went to a little shindig at his complex, so I didn't have anyone to go anywhere with. I don't really mind because I went out Wednesday and Thursday night. So I took advantage of my night off by making myself useful: I did some errands, got laundry and the dishes done, baked brownies, put in an entry (plus a review of Lilo and Stitch), and took care of some personal things, too. Go me. My 4th of July festivities here were kind of a let down. There were fireworks displays everywhere, but I was outvoted and didn't get to see them. And I LOVE fireworks! I am repeatedly impressed and overwhelmed by them. There are no words for a quality display, so my mouth just stays in a perpetual smile. I'm one of those people who don't stop smiling when having a good time. And there's nothing quite like brilliantly glittering trails of light and the body-shaking *booms* that echo the visual explosions to have a good time. Then again I have to think about it rationally: After watching fireworks in DC for years, easily the most impressive 4th of July fireworks display in the country, all others are just lacking. That's what I tell myself to make myself feel better for missing them out here. Well, that and at least I got pretty fireworks the night before graduation (now I know where our tuition money went to). Instead, we ended up at the Saddle Ranch (what a surprise). Sunset was eerily empty, and the hotties chose not to come out. We did meet a perky and talkative girl named Melissa who's (supposedly) recording an album with Def Jam. But otherwise it was the same old crowd. It was also a night I chose not to drink much, but luckily I'm naturally peppy and don't need it to have a good time. We ended the night having some grub at the diner in The Standard. It was expensive as sin, but hey, they have great fries. On the plus side, I didn't need to fly out of LAX at all on the 4th, so I didn't have to be around the shooting. I don't know all the details, but that was a pretty sh1tty thing to happen. And the worse thing is that it was on every channel ALL day long. It's not that I think the event was insignificant, but there was no new information for hours. Plus there was talk about it being a terrorist attack? I think not. It was kind of frustrating, and yes also very unfortunate. But to totally change the subject, Angela finally got our Moby tickets. I went to his show last year and was very impressed, so I'm looking foward to this year, too. I always end up seeing some folks from high school, which is something I tend to stay ambivalent about. It'll be nice to see how much we haven't really changed in 4 years. Hehe. Anyways, can't wait to see the concert. Time to take those brownies out of the oven. Toodles. |
