Spending some quality time at home this week. Like most of my trips this summer, my jaunt up to NY was cancelled, but this time it was because I didn't want to go. I have spent enough time in my life in
Ithaca, and found a way to postpone my trip to late August. Jin Soo is doing me a favor by taking the stuff I left behind (and has to be out of my place by Aug 1) so I don't need to worry about getting quite yet. Yay!

I've been reading the self-help book
What to Say When You Talk To Yourself. I picked it up because it was on Angela's nightstand and needed something to do. (She is reading it for her soon-to-be job as a financial advisor.) I am nearly done with it, and have this strangely satisfying feeling of, gee, this book sounds like I could have written it. It's an easy to read book, though the author kind of goes around in circles for the first couple chapters, with good, practical, and achievable advice on how to better one's self. Essentially, it says to take responsibility for your own actions and be your own cheerleader. If you program yourself to believe that your life is good, then that will be reflected in your actions (with the exception of the very few things out of your control, like a thunderstorm), which will lead to a more enjoyable life. But like I said, I had a perpetual smirk as I read because, with the exception of a few very minor things, I'm already practicing the good life, complete with smiles and affirmations. So, if you ever need some suggestions on how to improve yourself, I'm the go to girl, since I'm nearly perfect! Mwa ha ha.

On an entirely different subject, my mom's new kitchen is SO white. She had new cabinets and a sink put in, all white or light beige. I felt like I was walking into an institution of the mental kind, except that the walls weren't padded. I've asked her to at least paint the walls so the kitchen is more inviting (yes,
Trading Spaces has had its effect on me!) but she doesn't want to. I suggested a nice tan or rust-ish color for warmth. I'm about to just buy a can of paint and do it myself while she's at work so the changes will be made before she can stop me. Hey, she did it to me when she painted my room PINK one summer day back in high school. Retribution baby. Hehe nah... I could never do that because I'd want HER to do some of the work. Hehehe.

I'll probably have a quiet night tonight. I'm kind of tired because I had to get up WAY early - 11:30 am! So tonight I'll likely finish reading that talking book, and then onto "How To Think Like Leonardo da Vinci" by Michael J. Gelb. My dad bought that one for my younger brother to help stimulate his mind. Since I'm not getting any stimulation of the more enjoyable sort, mental stimulation will do. My brother's in Baltimore for a convention this weekend, which is plenty of time to read this new book. Then again, I could also do what I should be doing and study for the GMATs. I'll decide late. In any case, it'll be a nice night for me!
