| Thursday 13 February 2003 12:36 am Tomorrow is Valentines Day. Now I may not have a special someone for it, but unlike most girls I'm not all angry and trying to shun all things red and heart-shaped. In fact, I proclaim loud and clear that I love Valentines Day, regardless of my dating status. I love the idea of celebrating love for love's sake. Love is very often taken for granted or even avoided any other day of the year, and unless you're still in the honeymoon phase of a relationship, love is just a given that no one really worries about. But not on this one day when we're reminded that we should really be glad for love. The 14th of February is about celebrating love in any form it presents itself to you in your life. It's a day for being appreciative about being loved, giving love, and having something to love in your life, even if that something is just yourself. THAT is the spirit I'm thankful for, not the pink and white hearts or flowers or stupid overpriced chocolates. Sure I'm a sucker for that kind of thing, but that's just icing on the cake. I thought about it, and I've only actually had someone for V-day once. In high school I'd have a bunch of girlfriends over to watch some chick flicks and eat ice cream. Then the last 3 years of college, the SAA semiformal was just about this time of year, so at least my mind was occupied. This year... Well, I have a play to attend. But otherwise it's just me. On the plus side, that means that I get to celebrating loving myself (which I do daily anyways). Maybe I'll bake myself a cake. Hehehe. My weekend kept me busy, as I hopped around DC with Jen to the museum or to eat tapas or to dance at some bar/club. The Freer Gallery in DC is actually quite nice and has a respectable collection of Asian art. It was mostly Chinese and Japanese prints, plus some Indian and Islamic stuff too. We ate at Jaleo in NW, whose tapas were surprisingly tasty and not terribly expensive. Sure, it's no Spain, but the restaurant had great ambiance and excellent sangria, which made it all good. Then the bars... I got my lovely domesticated Jen to stay up past 11 pm, which was a true achievement. (I also took her to her first Dennys; however I don't believe any damage was done due to that.) It was definitely an enjoyable weekend, but I believe I got a tad bit sick because of it. Something about freezing weather and smoky bars irritated my thoat. I've been on the verge of getting sick for the last few days. But hey I'm alright, and that's a fair price to pay for loads of fun. I'd say more, but I can't think of anything else to bore you with. Lol. Toodles. |
