The Lynch family emigrated from County Cork, Ireland during the Great Potato Famine (sometime between 1847 and 1849).  Mary Lynch O'Brien's obituary states that she emigrated when she was about 12 which would mean her family left Ireland in 1847.  However, the 1900 U.S. Census of Lafayette County, Wisconsin indicates she immigrated to the U.S. in 1849.

Mary's family (The Lynches) first arrived in Massachusetts but settled in New Diggings, Wisconsin by 1850 so that Mary qualified to be registered as a "Pioneer of Wisconsin."

Mary Lynch married
Lawrence O'Brien in 1851 at St. Patrick's church in New Diggings, Wisconsin.  They had eleven children: Patrick (1854); Mary (1856); Bridget (1864); Michael (1865); Julia (1867); Lizzy (1871); and Sarah (1878) and four others who died in infancy.

Mary Lynch O'Brien is buried with her husband Lawrence OBrien in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Kendall, Lafayette, Wisconsin.
