Development of leadership and teamwork skills, communicative skills, drill & ceremonies. Higher levels of cadet leadership & staff positions. Introduction to aerodynamics and the theory of flight. Objectives. Our students will know and understand: 1. How the communication process works. 2. The six steps of the basic checklist used for preparing oral or written communication and know their purpose. 3. That effective listening is a vital element of the communication process. 4. How to work as a team. 5. The common problems present in a group and how to resolve them. 6. The characteristics that are present in a group. 7. That prejudice at any level is unacceptable behavior. 8. Qualities & principles necessary for effective leadership. 9. The role of a follower. 10. How the personal character of the organizational leader greatly influences the personality of the members of the organization. 11. The principles of basic aeronautics. 12. Aircraft motion and how it is controlled. 13. The types of civilian and military aerospace vehicles. Course Requirements: See your childs Cadet Handbook. Includes conduct, courtesy, classroom policies and procedures, personal appearance and uniform wear. Course Evaluation. Uniform & personal appearance inspection every Wednesday. Student workbook completion on each assigned chapter through the semester, selected questions from the workbook may be assigned as homework every week. In addition, the instructor may assign additional homework as opportunities arise depending on student progress. Chapter tests administered approximately every two weeks normally (see attached pacing schedule). Writing Across the Curriculum. Each week, we will administer a very brief writing exercise based on that weeks JROTC subject. This supports Wade Hampton High Schools "Writing Across the Curriculum" Program. Physical fitness test consisting of a one mile run or walk, pushups and crunches. Mid term and final exams. Conduct and class preparation throughout. Grades. Overall each area of student work is weighted according to the following breakout: Academics 40% Uniform Wear/Personal Appearance 30% Homework 10% Conduct & Class Prep 20% Each individual evaluation grade scale is as follows: A = 93 and above B = 85-92 C = 77-84 D = 70-76 F = 69 and below NOTES: The cadet calendar attached may change due to assemblies, pep rallies, field trips and other events. In addition, please note that the first detailed cadet calendar available is the first 4-5 weeks. This will naturally be updated through the semester. See the schedule legend attached for explanation of abbreviations and acronyms. Uniform issued by AFJROTC kept clean and ready for wear and inspection every Wednesday. Uniform cleaned and pressed for turn in at the end of the semester (unless otherwise announced). Shoes. Comfortable but stable shoes such as tennis shoes for drill. Loose fitting sandals dont normally work well and can result in tripping while outside on the drill pad.
