This is an example of how I want the first day of my class to flow. This is based on a 50 minute class.

Class Management
* I will stand in the hallway and greet students as they enter classroom.
*Name tents will be set up on the students desk so they know where to sit.
*There will be instructions on the board telling students which class they are in and to take their seats until class begins.
*Make sure all students are in the correct classroom.
*Welcome everyone to the class.
*Give a brief overview of what the class is about.
*Tell the class who I am and what I like.
*Play "find someone" game! On an index card each student writes 3-5 of their favorite things ... it can be anything. I will take up the cards and pass them out randomly. The object is for the students to find whos card they have. Once they find their person they will spend a few minutes getting to know them.
*We will take before pictures.
*We will also play the "How I Have Grown" game. You simply have the students cut a piece of string to their height and hold on to it until the end of the yeah so they can see how much they have grown, both physically and mentally.
*Now that we have had some fun and gotten to know each other it is time to go over procedures.
*Explain and rehearse some of our classroom procedures:
-Entering the classroom
-Bell work
-Returning from an absence
-Turning in classwork and homework
-Picking up graded work
-Quieting or attention getting
-End of class
*Give first assignment: "Mini All About Me." This will be a short autobiography for me to get to know them better and to see where they are in their writing level.
*Go over the syllabus for the first 6/9 weeks.
*Pass any handouts that need to go home for stendents and parents to look over and sign.
*Do End of Class procedure.
